Thinking...

Dangerous words, I know.

Today, I'm thinking about these words:

THOUGHTFUL,

INTENTIONAL,

HEARTFELT,

MOTHERING (or parenting.)

What does it mean? What does it mean practically? How do I implement it in our everyday lives?

Ok, readers, mothers, fathers, non-parents,

what does this mean to you?

Leave me a comment or send me an email if you have any thoughts on the subject.

* And a couple of pictures for your entertainment.

To me it means going slow on purpose and paying attention to everything my kids are trying to do or communicate. Sometimes it takes more than listening to understand what my kids are trying to tell me and to realize what they need. Especially when they're frustrated and upset. It takes probing questions and genuine empathy from me...and sometimes a few cuddles. Its amazing to me how much they can tell when I'm really locked in to them versus just making eye/physical contact but allowing my mind to work on other things. Gentleness, empathy and patience go so far with these little ones...and unfortunately those things don't come that naturally to me. So I have to slow down and make the choice. Its always more rewarding than I could imagine.

I think it means just parenting our children intentionally. With everything we say and do, making sure it is full of intent. Realizing that what we say/do everyday makes a difference in their lives and in the kingdom of God as well, as we raise kids who will hopefully pass it on to their own kids someday as well.
